Who we are and what we do: 
Vention is an end-to-end product development partner for smart and connected devices. We develop electronics, embedded software and app- & cloud- integrations. Besides developing we produce and service the products. We use our own Wockel platform to shorten time to market and reduce total cost of ownership. 

What makes us unique:
We are located in the Dutch Brainport region. We combine deep embedded engineering with a practical route to the market. Vention brings hardware, firmware, connectivity, security, validation and production transfer together in one team. Furthermore we support the devices during it’s complete lifecycle. This together reduces risks for our clients and shortens time to market.  

Working with Nordic Semiconductor:
We use Nordic technology in low-power wireless and cellular IoT products where reliability, energy efficiency and productization matter. We typically work with Bluetooth LE, Wi-Fi and cellular-connected devices. Furthermore we have build our own Wockel platform compatible with the nRF Connect SDK & Zephyr.

Which projects we focus on:
 We focus on quality-driven smart and connected devices with meaningful field use/impact. Devices that require a custom implementation while benefitting from mature technology in terms of robustness and cyber security. We partner with our clients during the whole lifecycle of a device. So we not only develop, we also produce and service connected devices. We both develop complete products and partial products and Vention often acts as the system integrater for complex products, partnering with other engineering companies to create the full product. Typical focus areas are industrial IoT, energy assets, health and wellbeing, mobility, sports technology and other smart connected. 

Design services
Vention supports clients during the complete lifecycle of a device.  From initial idea to real world impact.  From development, to production to servicing devices in the field. Vention develops mainly low-power, smart & (internet) connected devices based on Nordic technology. Vention is active in various verticals like industry, (personal) healthcare and energy. Numerous devices are active in the field. Most products are build based on Wockel, our proprietary platform based on Zephyr.  Ventions specializes in electronics, embedded software, cloud integration and has an active network of partners that develop parts of the devices that are not covered by Ventions services. Vention does take the overall integration role.
For the products that we deliver Vention fully outsources the production, while performing the quality control to ensure every shipped product complies to our strict quality standards.

Bluetooth LE, Bluetooth 5.1 Direction Finding, Bluetooth Mesh, ZigBee, Thread, Matter,  Ethernet, LTE-M, Wi-Fi 6, PMIC (power management), DECT NR+.

We have experience with integration of 3rd party software and protocols in combination with Nordic solutions:
Vention has extensive experience building connected products with Nordic components. All products Vention develops have some for of connectivity, while often combining multiple. We develop these products based on our Wockel platform that is layered on top of the Zephyr RTOS and using MCUBoot for the bootloader and MBEDTLS as cryptographic library. 
Our Wockel Connect component for cloud connectivity uses LwM2M for connecting to our cloud servers.
 For Meshing technology on DECT-NR+ Vention Collaborates with Wirepas to implement their meshing stack in our products. 
 When implementing Ethernet on Nordic chips, Vention works with Wiznet chips and software to enable ethernet connectivity on multiple Nordic products.
 

Solutions
Vention develops products based on the Wockel platform, our tested development platform containing many functional building blocks integrated in a ready-to-produce platform. With this approach Vention realizes a reduction of time to market up to 50% and reduces the Total Cost of Ownership during the lifecycle of a product. The Wockel platform consists of:

  • Wockel BLE/ Wi-Fi, LTE, Motion
    This solution exists of a combination of:
    • Embedded software (SDK)
      providing the foundation of a connected device with features like       Power Management, Data Processing, (cloud) Connectivity, Security, Provisioning, Device Management and User Interfaces
    • Development boards (Accelerator packs)
      used during the development to execute early technical verification & product validation. Provides input for custom electronics design. This includes the embedded foundation that runs on the Accelerator Packs, as well as on the end-product.
    • Electronics library
      Pre-tested and configurable electronics building blocks that are often used in low-power connected devices. Consisting of a managed component library and easy to integrate building blocks containing schematic and PCB layouts.
  • Wockel connect
    Cloud services to manage the devices with built-in integration in the embedded SDK. . The service provides an API to end customer to manage their own devices including FOTA updates and provides and easy to use bidirectional data-communication layer with all required features such as data buffering, monitoring, device configuration, etc.
  • Wockel test
    Test platform (HW and software) to test PCBA’s and products and provision the devices during development and production. Wockel test includes standardized test tooling that can easily be adapted for each specific product to create a production line testing solution.

Our projects include health, mobility, sports, industrial monitoring and energy-transition related products. Our modular development approach also helps reduce development waste and speeds up responsible product realization. During our development process we take the full product lifecycle into account including refurbishing, disassembly and recycling; reducing non-recyclable waste. Furthermore we develop intrinsic safe Atex products that allow for re-use of components.
